IBM launched the Db2 Developer Community Edition, a new developer solution that can be downloaded for free on IBM’s website.
The latest version includes a full set of Db2 tools and allows professionals to quickly create prototype applications, while effectively using all the features of Enterprise Edition Enterprise Edition. Users can download the software and start downloading and managing data for 15 minutes, regardless of whether they work on computers or laptops.
Db2 on Cloud – The new version of the Db2 on Cloud solution is a fully managed service available from IBM Cloud. New features of the technology include a dynamic scale – a “slider” for setting performance and memory capacity. With a simple click on the mouse, users can instantly zoom in, increasing or decreasing data processing performance and the amount of RAM required. In the same way, they can increase the storage capacity of the information storage system. The new service avoids the labor-intensive process of negotiating and purchasing additional computing resources. The new Db2 on Cloud solution complements IBM Db2 Hosted, a database version hosted by IBM Cloud.
JSON Support – IBM has announced that Db2 now supports JSON, an open source document format that uses language-friendly perceptions to move data objects. JSON, commonly used in new applications, can now be integrated into the Db2 Relational DBMS, providing users with an easy way to store information from applications. Developers can use their SQL skills to store, manage and select JSON data in the Db2 system. This reduces the need for additional study of specialized information repositories and allows you to integrate data on mobile and web activity in analytical storage systems for further insights on user behavior. Db2 optimizes JSON data retrieval with indexing support, while increasing the processing performance of queries.
In addition, IBM is expanding Db2 using the Hybrid Transactional / Analytical Processing (HTAP) architecture. This was made possible by the technical pre-release of support for secondary indexing in RAM for the BLU Acceleration technology. The use of the IBM Db2 solution for BLU Acceleration, developed for HTAP, avoids duplication of information. It reduces the amount of memory requirements and latency, unlike other databases. Secondary indexes significantly improve the processing performance of some queries for operational data warehouses and analytical storage systems as well as OLTP and HTAP work tasks. Users can already test Db2 capabilities in their application development environment today.
The DB2 Analytics Accelerator for z / OS solution has also been upgraded with the capabilities of HTAP. These technologies provide improved data processing in real time and simplify the structure of applications, since eliminate the need to manage delays in the process of duplication of information.
Db2 on Cloud Benchmark – IBM has released a new performance benchmark, which demonstrates a higher overall solution performance, while it’s twice as high as the productivity and cost ratio of the Amazon Aurora cloud domains, a major competitor.
